I’ve just noticed while checking on my four hamsters that one of the little buggers has some how managed to make a break from his cage and done a runner. D’argo is one of the two Russian hamsters that I bought a couple of weeks back. I had to separate him from his brother (Rygel) as he’s a bit of a bully and kept kicking him out of their nest.

I’m not completely sure how he escaped as his enclosure is a vertical sided glass fish tank on a shelf about four feet off the floor! God knows how he made it out!

Update: I found him! He was hiding down the back of the sofa – I only noticed because there was a little trail of hamster crap on my living room floor! He put up a bit of a fight when I tried to recapture him and legged it to the other side of the room but I caught him in the end. I’ve put the lid for the fish tank back on for now to stop him escaping (with extra ventilation holes) and will buy a proper cage designed for dwarf hamsters just as soon as my pay cheque clears.

I had planned to get a better cage anyway as the tank is a bit small and certainly not as big as Rygel’s cage so it was only fair to get him one the same. Hopefully the new cage will give him more space and more to do and distract him from trying to escape.
